Paul Stastny has spent the previous seven seasons with the Avalanche, and has established himself as a reliable point producer in that span. Our own Reg Jenkins spoke with Stastny about the following topics below:

ON PLAYING FOR PATRICK ROY:

Its good, he’s smart and passionate. It rubs off on the guys. I’ve never had a coach who makes so many adjustments and changes during a game that make such an impact on the game.

ON HOW HE PREPS BEFORE A GAME:

What I know is that he understands the game so much. He sees what’s happening in the zones- in the neutral zone and gets us to adjust. It’s very impressive. He yells out adjustments during the play.  That’s where his knowledge comes into play.

ON ROY’S VERBALNESS FROM THE BENCH:

He’s got this mind set- he’s always teaching us and he just thinks out load. We hear what he’s saying and we adjust. Sometimes he’ll say something. We have this respect for him so we listen and learn. He’s always teaching and you’ll hear him from the bench and adjust.

WHERE THE TEAM STANDS RIGHT NOW AFTER COOLING OFF FROM THE HOT START:

The coach has kept us at an even keel and helped us bounce back. He takes the positives out of the losses and gets us to focus on those moving forward.

ON VARLAMOV AND HIS PERSONAL STRUGGLES:

He’s been like that for a couple of years. Very focused and sharp. Patrick has had a big impact on him. Both our goalies -we have all the confidence in the world in them.
