When the Flyers splurged for free agent defenseman Mark Streit they hoped he would help the Broad Streeters reach the playoffs and that’s precisely what happened.
Our own Matthew Gaffney corralled the slick Swiss defenseman and discussed his first year as a Flyer with him. The following are some of Streit’s thoughts:
* BIGGEST ADJUSTMENT:
It's tough to explain. Obviously it's a big sports town and organization. They have a really competitive team. The expectations are really high here and the fans and everybody involved want to make the playoffs. I have a bit of a different role on the team, but I love it. I am enjoying myself a lot. It was the right decision for me.
* BIGGEST IN-GAME ADJUSTMENT:
You spread the minutes around here on the D corps. Everybody is little bit fresher and guys don't get over worked. Other than that I just play hockey. I have a role and I do my job as good as possible.
* WHAT HE LIKES MOST PLAYING FOR HEAD COACH CRAIG BERUBE:
The way he is in the locker room and on the bench. He really keeps his composure. If he doesn't like something, he will tell the players individually and as a team. He is straight-forward and remains pretty calm.
* GREATEST MEMORY AS AN ISLANDER:
Making the playoffs last year. Having a packed Coliseum and a great series against Pittsburgh. For me it was a great, great finish to a wonderful time.
