Bruins veteran defenseman Johnny Boychuk has been a model of consistency for his team’s defense corps.
‘Johnny Rocket’ – as he’s affectionately known to the faithful – earned a stellar +32 rating during the 2014 season, good for second among NHL defensemen.
TFR’s Mikka Burrell elicited the following observations from the B’s backliner:
* HOW HAVE YOU MANAGED TO STAY DEFENSIVELY CONSISTENT ALL SEASON LONG?
Playing defense! [Laughs] I don’t try to do anything too fancy and just try to keep pucks out of my net. If we score a goal when I’m on the ice, it’s just a plus. I just try to do my job first.
* WAS WINNING THE PRESIDENTS’ TROPHY EVER EVEN MENTIONED IN THE LOCKER ROOM?
Not really. We basically just keep playing each game and taking every opponent as it comes. We don’t really worry about trophies and stuff like that because that’s not really the trophy that we want.
* THOUGHTS ON BRUINS BROADCASTER JACK EDWARDS DUBBING YOUR NEWBORN TWINS ‘THE ROCKETTES’?
It’s not too bad. They’re rockets. They’re going to be at least. But I’m not too sure [if I will let them play hockey].
